Successful Tea Business – Creativity

“I am not creative, I can’t draw, paint or even cut and paste artistic stuff.”

While most of us are not Picasso or Steve Jobs, we can be creative.

Creativity should become part of our lives. If you want your business to be successful, this is one mindset change you must master this year.

One of the interesting comments I got was from our very good customer David. David said, “You don’t read. That’s what you keep saying but what about these things behind you? What are they?”

Yes, they are books. Most of them are actually owned by my husband, Peter, but I have actually contributed to this collection.

I don’t read but I use books as my reference. I don’t feel embarrassed about it.

I don’t have to be an avid reader in order to be resourceful. That’s just it.

Sometimes it’s not a matter of the quantity of the stuff that you have, what matters is their quality and how you use them.

Gradually, when the business starts to grow from year one to year two or from me being completely creative to looking at it as not just something that I love to do.

I love tea and I also want to set up a successful business with a clear goal.

In the second year there was somewhat a continuation of the theme just like in the first year where there was a lot of creative thinking that went on.

However, I like to challenge your perception of being creative because when I say to people that they got to be creative in order to win in the game of business, they would automatically just say “I’m not creative, I can’t draw or save my life.”

The thing is, creativity can be about problem solving or be about how you approach life.

So, thinking outside the box already means that you are creative.

Sometimes we are so busy with mechanical things and day to day running that we forget that when we are at our first reckoning, understanding the world, there was a lot of play, a lot of experiment, and a lot of drawing.

We all went through that.

It doesn’t matter where you come from.

Some sort of education involves drawing because that’s one of the primal skills that we all have.

If you go back to those things, you will know that it doesn’t matter whether you draw or not.

Drawing is really a mechanical skill. Some people are born with it while others are not.

Some people love to draw and so they get better at it. It doesn’t matter whether they have the skill initially.

I once talked to an art teacher and he said, “Look I can teach you how to draw, that’s not really a problem. “

However, that is not what creativity is about.

It’s more of how you interpret the world.

And that’s just it. Interpreting the world is not about how you hold the paintbrush or how you paint like Monet or whatever.

Now, let us go back to the topic of being resourceful.

During my second year, I started to look at the sort of things I need to do in order to be resourceful.

So, I looked at a lot of books with a resourceful perspective.

I also tried to connect more with the perspective of getting the tea name out there.

For example, I offered to write articles in magazines.

We did some for Binzin, Options, and a couple of health and food magazines.

Those things will help you get your name out there.

Of course, there is always the print advertising but I can categorically say to you that there is no bank for the back there.

It’s just a lot of money for the tinniest bit of gain.

We have done it for quite some time in few pages of food magazines and what not.

None of them really brought decent amount of money to help us recover what we have spent for the ads.

If you do want to try print ads please try to consider doing it at least three times in a row or otherwise people will not see it because it’s as if they blink their eyes whenever there is an ad.

So, a little bit of consistency could help them see it.

You might also want to check whether there is really actual effectiveness in the print ads.

In the ad, you need to have some kind of call for action.

Maybe you can place a special code that they can use in order to buy with a discount or a free gift.

I can categorically tell you that it doesn’t really work because we’ve done this code thing before, like giving out a variety of things, and it really didn’t work.

An ad is as little as a business card size in a magazine.

When I was buying them ten years ago, they cost about 300 or 400 dollars.

Honestly, getting back the 300 or 400 dollars in the business of tea, there is really no guarantee.

Again we were talking about having you advertise them at least three times. We’ve done it six times. We’ve done it for a year. It was just not worth it.

So, I would suggest that you look at it from a propensity angle but that doesn’t mean that you have to go to the TV and what not.

You could just, like what I was saying before, offer to write articles for some of the magazines. If you’re not very inclined to that, you could still be out there and maybe you could join forces with some of the businesses that you think are after the same clientele that you seek.

For example, if you are selling tea, to promote health, you can link up with a local doctor or if you don’t want to go that far, you could link up with a gym or an active wear shop.

There are a lot of possibilities and that’s where your creativity can come in and really shine.

Think about creativity as about how you react to your environment and find the best solution at this point to support your goal.

So don’t think about painting, drawing, cutting and pasting crafty things.
